Disarray
"In The Face of The Enemy"
Eclipse Records
I didn't know what to expect from this cd really. Looking at the cover art I thought maybe it would be "grindcore". Seeing it was produced by Dave "Oderus" Brockie (Gwar) , I thought maybe it would be death metal-ish? Not so. Do you remember the raw energy Metallica used to bring to their sound? Do you remember what Skid Row sounded like live? Disarray is here to make us remember those days and thus never forget the name of Disarray.
"In The Face Of The Enemy" is the first true metal record I have heard in a long, long time. Its all completely straightforward. It's fast paced, in your face, lots of riff heavy guitars and solos, and a rhythm section that drives the band constantly forward. Throw in some melodic vocals (but not too many) and lots of metal yelling , not unlike James Hetfield in younger days, and you have Disarray. Lyrically, these boys are out to take on the powers that be and set the record straight. Life is not defined by money and power. Let me tell you, these lyrics are a refreshing change from the "woe is me" style lyrics that dominate modern rock/metal. Disarray writes anthems that make you want to revolt and change the world, not go see a shrink. Disarray is metal through and through and I for one am glad to have them represent it.
This record will definitely appeal to fans of rock/metal. It's pretty
much metal all the way through (until the last track which is an acoustic song), which is its only weakness. While Disarray is an excellent band,
there's not much variety here. I'm not saying the band should delve into different styles of music, but a little difference from the norm would do
them a great service. All in all though, Disarray rocks!
