1. What are you up to?

-- No good, as is the norm. LOL. Actually, it's kinda quiet now; I'm enjoying this bit of downtime. The band hasn't been off the road this long since I joined in late 2000. I'm playing catch-up in a lot of ways.

2. Whats the music scene like in TN?

-- We have a music scene in Tennessee? I'm shocked..... oh, did I say that out loud? I'm only partially joking, by the way. Tennessee has music here, some of it very heavy and very good, but you will probably never hear it or know the people who do it. Nobody in this town gets any love unless they either sing through their nose or have a pedal steel guitar player in their group. There are damn few good rock/metal bands left here, and fewer places to play here. That's in large measure the reason that Disarray tours: our audience isn't here. It's out there.

3. What are your spring/summer plans?

-- We're auditioning drummers right now. This will probably take several weeks or months, because we don't want to have to do this all over again further down the road. So we're taking our time. We have some other things we're working on that we're keeping a little closer to the vest for now. And somewhere in there, God forbid, I might actually find some time for personal things.

4. You're dreaming....you're at a concert....who is on that stage
dead/alive?

-- Alice In Chains. Layne Staley was the MAN, and at his peak, nobody could touch him. A total tragedy.

5. Who did the artwork on IN THE FACE OF THE ENEMY?

-- That would be Jeff Gaither. We connected with him through our label; he's done cover art for Eclipse releases before. He totally understood what we were going for. All I had to do was describe, over the phone, the sort of tableau we wanted depicted, and he ran with it and gave us some great artwork. You can find lots of his work at www.gaithergraphix.com/.

6. Any Chicago dates yet?

-- No dates anywhere right now, Chicago or otherwise. At least not until we've tapped a new drummer. But Chicago will definitely be a stop once we get back out there. We have some friends in Chicago, and we've had some good times there, so we'll see you as soon as we are able.

7. I hear you and Chuck are doing solo projects while you're on break, what are those like?

-- Chuck's solo thing is a sort of stripped down, acoustic roots-rock "man and his guitar" project. It reminds me a lot of David Allen Coe, with a kind of low-key Pepper Keenan COC delivery. I like it a lot. My thing is gonna be almost diametrically opposed to that; I'm going for a species of Disarray heaviness, with lots of melodic vocals and harmonies to offset the brutality of the music. The actual singing I do has little in common with my backup vocals in Disarray, and I never really get to do that anymore, unless I do it as its own entity apart from Disarray. I seem to have a little time on my hands, so... we'll see.

8. What was it like working/touring with GWAR? any crazy stories?

-- I suppose I'd have to start by saying that the Blood Drive Tour last year was the most fun, most personally satisfying time I ever had as a musician. The love and respect we got from the GWAR guys, the venues, the local support acts, and especially the crowds, was such a joy. GWAR fans are notoriously hard on opening bands, and when Dave ["Oderus" Brockie] told us that he'd never seen an opening act win the consistent approval we enjoyed throughout the tour... well, it meant a lot to us. Of course, with characters like GWAR on the road with you, there are gonna be all kinds of stories. But I'm not at liberty to discuss the goings-on backstage, on the bus, or at hotels. Code Of The Road, darlin'. LOL.

9. What was Antarctica like?

-- Cold. What did you expect me to say? We froze our asses off! Next question!

10. Musical influences?

-- A seriously long list. I'll try to be somewhat representative. When I was 13, Steve Clark from Def Leppard inspired me to pick up a guitar. When I was 16, Geddy Lee from Rush inspired me to pick up a bass. When I was 21, Layne Staley inspired me to start singing. When I was 23, Les Claypool inspired me to put down my bass in disgust. When I was 28, Henry Rollins inspired me to get over Les Claypool and play bass for myself. You asked.

11. Favorite movie?

-- Dogma, for right now. That'll change.

12. Favorite actor/actress?

-- Actor: Christopher Lee. Saruman ruled In LOTR. Actress: Kirsten Dunst. I'm a guy. Kill me.

13. Favorite Michael Madsen movie?

-- I think the name of the thing was The Getaway...? Him and Jennifer Tilly (sp?). I know, me and Leonard Maltin.

14. Favorite city to play, and why?

-- Damn that's a tough one. It'll probably be a tossup between Corpus Christi TX (we have some VERY diehard fans there), Wichita Falls TX (ditto, and a great promoter/club owner), and Muncie, IN (again, ditto). Very honorable mentions to Lafayette IN, Memphis TN, South Bend IN.... dammit, why couldn't you ask for LEAST favorite? That would've been a shorter list!

15. What do you do on your down time?

-- Pick navel lint and see how long I can grow my fingernails. Or, sometimes I've been known to work and pay bills like everybody else. Mostly, it's a time when I can decompress from the road, and I spend a lot of time reflecting. If the run was a good one, that's when I appreciate it and savor it. If it was bad, that's when I lick my wounds and stoically resolve to learn from the experience.

16. What do you think of Metal Sludge's message boards?

-- Comment on my part would imply that I care about it. I don't.

17. Last CD you bought?

-- I think it was Nickleback, Silver Side Up. Again, you asked.

18. Last concert you saw? was it good?

-- It's been so long since I attended a concert I was not playing at. Let's see.... I think it was Dope, late last year, here in Nashville. The crowd was small, and Edsel was obviously in an I-could-give-ten-shits-about-this-gig mood. Most of the band was abysmally drunk on Jager by mid-set. As a player, I was not impressed. Luckily, I was guest-listed by the guy who booked the show; if I'd been a paying concertgoer, I would've been pissed.

19. What is in your CD player?

It changes. Today, it was Soul Coughing, Ruby Vroom. Yesterday, it was Sepultura, Chaos A.D. Day before, Tori Amos' From The Choirgirl Hotel. Tomorrow could be Duran Duran, for all I know.

20. Tell me one thing that is either embarrassing or little known about yourself.

-- If it's embarrassing, what makes you think I would ever tell you? Sheesh....

21. Is there anything you'd like to bitch/complain/get off your chest about?

-- Not while I'm at home. Ask me after the first couple of weeks of being out.

22. Where can fans find you on the net?

-- www.disarrayonline.com/. See y'all there.
